Erkel, Ferenc

Ferenc(Franz) Erkel(1810-1893), Hungarian composer and conductor, debut as opera conductor at the local theater, thereafter he conducted at various theaters. He used Hungarian themes, and found Hungarian opera, he composed operas(Hunyadi Laszlo, Bank Ban...), and also composed the Hungarian national anthem. In later years he was revered as a great national figure; his statue was placed in front(left side) of the new Hungarian(Budapest) Opera House in 1884.
